With a bit of planning, top grub you’d pay a lot for at a hotel can be enjoyed at home, even on a very tight budget.

I have included sourdough bread before on this blog because I think it is wonderful. Although, pricey to buy (€4 or €5 per loaf) it will last you at least a week, freezes well and even tastes better as toast.

Sourdough begins life as 50g of flour and 50g tepid water in a 2 litre tupperware container (some recipes use a glass jar but others advise plastic, incase there is any build up of gasses from the yeast). It is then fed every day for a week with more flour and water. The naturally occurring yeast in the flour and atmosphere of the kitchen grow and hopefully flourish.
